C is for Saxophone... but what does that mean? To learn the true answer you have to BECOME a UCMB Saxophone, but for the sake of giving you something to do, here are some ideas for you to entertain.
Yes, we spend hours upon hours sweating/freezing out on the band field. However, when we’re not kicking around in puddles at practice or wiping the grass and mud off our nicely shined (NEVER DIRTY) shoes after a halftime performance, we like to express our sophisticated side. Saxophone is a classy instrument, Saxophones are classy people, and it shows. Look no further than the UCMB Banquet where all the gorgeous gentlemen and saxy ladies strut their stuff in the finest looking getups.
The Saxophone Way: Be the best section in the band. Period. With that said, it is inevitable that many a section will find themselves in the way of the Saxophones’ pursuit of excellence and thus they become victims of the Saxophones’ cunning nature. Let’s just say that even the sheer numbers of a Brass Alliance of Trumpets and Trombones stood no match for the crafty wits of the Saxophones.
Being a Saxophone in the UCMB is more than just the letter on your drill page or the instrument you are holding. Being a Saxophone means being a part of something bigger than yourself. We are Saxophones on and off the field. Saxes rely on each other, help one another, and make those around them better. We are friends, we are family, we are the C in the UCMB.
When the Saxophones step between the white lines they are a unit. No matter the field, the weather, the day or time they bring their class act, competitive nature, and comaraderie with every roll of the foot and with every touch of the reed. A Saxophones’ eyes are always with Pride... why? Because
