Preseason - University of Connecticut Marching Band

UCMB Preseason

All members of the Pride of Connecticut arrive one week before classes to begin preparations and rehearsals for the upcoming season. Upper Leadership Staff (Drum Majors and Band Captains), as well as Section Leaders and various members of Band Council arrive a few days before the rest of the band to prepare for a well-run week. The UConn Department of Residential Life will send details about checking in early, but these can be disregarded as they do not apply to band members. You will receive information regarding band check-in over the course of the summer.

Contact your section leader if you have issues or questions regarding any Preseason details.

Don't forget to invite your parents to the annual Preview Show on September 1st at 7 PM at the Sherman Complex (behind Gampel Pavillion).

Quick Preseason Details

Dates: August 18-24

Meals: All meals during preseason will be provided by the band.

Banquet: A deposit for the annual UCMB Postseason Banquet can be made at Check-In.

Instruments: The following instruments will be signed out during Check-In:

- Baritone
- Mellophone (Horn)
- Percussion
- Tuba

Others instruments are available in limited quantities. Please contact Marvin McNeill before arrival at preseason.

Don't Leave These At Home!

- Your Instrument
- Sneakers and socks
- Khaki pants or shorts for non-uniform performances
- Extra shirts and shorts
- Black socks to be worn at each performance
- Black marching shoes (if you own a pair)
- Hat (optional but recommended)
- Sneakers
- Water Bottle
- Lyre for instrument and extra flip folder
- Extra reeds or valve oil
- UConn student ID
- Fan for your dorm
- Alarm Clock

Items That Will Be Provided

- 1 Band T-Shirt
- 1 Band Cap (new members)
- 1 Pair Marching Shoes (new members without a pair of marching shoes - email ucmb@uconn.edu to reserve a pair, noting your size and M/F)
- 1 Pair White Marching Gloves

- 1 Wool Winter Hat
- 1 Flip Folder
- 1 Full UCMB Uniform (to be returned at the end of the season; Color Guard contact your Section Leaders for uniform details)

All other necessary items can be purchased at Preseason or by visiting the UCMB Merchandise website.

Preseason Rehearsals

Preseason rehearsals take place all day at a combination of Music Building Room 102, outside the Music Building (sectionals), or at the Band Field next to W-Lot. Directors, Drum Majors, Band Captains, and Section Leaders will teach music, marching techniques, and traditions of the Pride of Connecticut and its individual sections including the UConn Fight Song, Alma Mater, and cheers.
