UCMB StaffJosh BelvinGraduate AssistantJOSHUA CARR BELVIN is a second year graduate student pursuing his Master of Music degree in instrumental conducting with Dr. Jeffrey Renshaw. Originally from Denver, North Carolina, Josh holds a B.S. Ed in Music from Western Carolina University where he studied trumpet under Dr. P. Bradley Ulrich. While at Western, Josh performed in many ensembles including the Wind Ensemble, Concert Choir, Jazz Band, and five other chamber ensembles. He also regularly performed as a soloist for venues in and around western North Carolina. Josh served as Staff Coordinator for the Sudler Award winning "Pride of the Mountains" Marching Band where he was charged with overseeing all day-to-day operations of the Athletic Band program. Josh completed his student teaching with Fran Shelton, Director of Bands for Hendersonville High School. There he conducted several ensembles including the Symphonic Band, Concert Band, String Orchestra, Jazz Band, and Pit Orchestra. During his time at Hendersonville High School, the Symphonic and Concert Bands were awarded first and second place over all ensembles at the Festival of Gold Band, Choir and Orchestra festival held that year in Chicago Symphony Hall. Josh is a member of North Carolina Music Education Association and International Trumpet Guild. In 2007, he was inducted as a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity and is a member of Phi Gamma Mu and Kappa Delta Pi honor societies. Justin McManusGraduate AssistantJUSTIN MCMANUS is in his first semester as a graduate student pursuing the M.M. in Bassoon Performance under Mr. Ron Haroutunian. Justin graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2011 with a B.A. in Music (bassoon) and B.S. in Music Education. While at UConn, Justin performed as principal bassoonist in the Wind Ensembles, Orchestra, Concert Band, and several other ensembles. Justin served as Drum Major of the UConn Marching Band during the 2010-11 season, and has been a manager and member of the tuba section. He is an active adjudicator with the Connecticut Music Educator's Association and is a founding member of the Jupiter Wind Quintet. His teachers include Ron Haroutunian and Alicia Sphur. Justin completed his student teaching with Mr. Keith Berry and Mr. Marco Cancellieri at Manchester High School in Manchester, CT. While at MHS, Justin worked with the symphonic bands, jazz ensemble, marching band, and several other Justin holds affiliations with MENC, CMEA, CBDNA, and the International Double Reed Society. He also holds membership in the Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority, and has served as the Gamma Kappa chapter's Parliamentarian. Amy dauphinaisGraduate AssistantAMY DAUPHNAIS is currently in her first year as a graduate student at UConn, studying with Dr. Jeffrey Renshaw to obtain her Masters of Music in Conducting. As an alumnus of UConn (known then as Amy Bovin), she finished her undergrad with a B.A. in Music and a B.S. in Education in May 2009. During her time in the UCMB, Amy marched piccolo, spent two years as Flute Section Leader, one year as Drum Major, and spent her final year as UCMB Head Drum Major. As an undergraduate music major, Amy was principle flutist in the University Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. She also played trombone, saxophone and percussion in the Concert Band, and co-ran the Steel Drum Ensemble. Immediately following undergrad commencement from UConn, Amy started actively teaching music in the state of Connecticut. For the remainder of the 2008-2009 school year, Amy taught 7th and 8th grade band and lessons at Tomlinson Middle School in Fairfield, CT. Beginning August 2009 until June 2011, Amy was the Director of Bands at Ridgefield High School in Ridgefield, CT teaching the Concert Band, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble and after school marching band. In addition to the ensembles, she taught music technology and music theory. Amy Dauphinais is also a life member of Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority. As an active sister, she held numerous positions in both the chapter and Northeast District. Amy was also chosen as the Advisor for the Colony at Lincoln University in PA during the Spring of 2009. Her most recent office was the 2010-2011 Northeast District Alumni Association Vice President for Tau Beta Sigma. As of July 3rd, 2011 Amy Bovin officially became Amy Dauphinais when she was wed to Bryan Dauphinais, another Life Member of Tau Beta Sigma from UConn. They met during their time as undergrads in the UConn Marching Band. Frank PappalardoVoice of The UCMB![]() Frank began announcing for the UCMB while an undergraduate, selected in 1972, during his second year at Uconn. During his tenure as announcer he has served in a number of additional capacities behind the scenes; as Equipment Manager for the UCMB's second & third European tours, Tour Manager for its fourth European tour, Assistant Tour Manager for the band's Disney World tour and as an adjunct faculty lecturer in instrument repair. He has also held the position of Athletics Football Stadium Public Address Spotter and the Football Stadium's Public Address Game Announcer. Frank received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Music from University of Connecticut in 1975. Although his career path has lead to business and ownership of a regional Environmental services company he remains active in music and performance. As a bandleader and saxophonist Frank performs widely in concert, commercial, and jazz venues throughout the Northeast and does commercial voice-over. Frank Pappalardo is a member of American Federation of Musicians, Local 285-403 and is an honorary member of both Kappa Kappa Psi, and Tau Beta Sigma. Eric BrustColor Guard InstructorEric began his marching band career at Trumbull High School for fall marching band (1990-1992) and winter guard (1992-1993). Then from 1995 to 1997 he marched with an independent open group, Shadow Danse, out of New Jersey and competed nationally in the WGI circuit. Relocating his life to Massachusetts, Eric then had an opportunity to perform with a top WGI World Class group, St. Ann's, from 2000 to 2002. Eric then finished his indoor winter guard career with Blessed Sacrament from 2007 thru 2009 & 2011. In the summer he would keep busy by marching with the Hawthorne Caballeros (95, 96, 99, 04, 05, 06, 07) and Connecticut Hurricanes in 2002. Eric is also an honorary member of the Gamma Kappa chapter of Tau Beta Sigma. Chris HorvatDrumline InstructorChris started his marching career at Notre Dame High School (West Haven, CT) where he played in the drumline from 1994-1998. During the summers of 1997 and 1998, he marched in the tenor line with the Connecticut Hurricanes. Chris then attended the University of Connecticut where he was a member of the university's Marching Band snare line from 1998 – 2000 and became drum major for the 2001 and 2002 seasons. Over the summers, he marched in the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps ( San Antonio, TX) tenor line (1999) and the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps (Allentown, PA) tenor line (2000, 2001 and 2002). Chris has also taught for the Connecticut Hurricanes in 2003 and marched in the Hawthorne Caballeros tenor line in 2004. Chris is a University of Connecticut Alum where he earned a Bachelors of Science in Manufacturing Engineering and Management. Chris currently works in the repair development group for an aerospace company in the Hartford, CT area. He manages a team of engineers developing repair solutions on jet engine components. Chris is also an honorary member of the National Band Sorority Tau Beta Sigma and National Band Fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi. Hans anderson-dollhopfDrumline InstructorHans Anderson-Dollhopf has earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from The University of Connecticut and his Master of Arts degree in Secondary Education from Saint Joseph College.
